Information Technology Specialist

The Information Technology (IT) Specialist is responsible for maintaining computer information systems, modifying systems to improve production or workflow, or expanding systems to serve new purposes. Information management will relate to all aspects of BJCTA’s operations planning, monitoring, testing, accounting, forecasting, coordination, scheduling, and communication systems. Required to understand the capabilities of the organization’s equipment and software and may be asked to provide recommendations regarding selection of new equipment or software packages. Assists BJCTA in realizing the maximum benefit from its investment in equipment, personnel, and business processes.

Budget Analyst

The Budget Projects Analyst coordinates with the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Manager and Senior Accountant in preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets. They also aid in monitoring and comparing the budget with actual results and helps recommend corrective actions  to achieve budget compliance. They will coordinate and assist departments with budget preparation and help department managers interpret budget variances and implement corrective actions.

Fleet Maintenance Supervisor

Under general supervision responsible for the fleet maintenance personnel (mechanics, general services, etc.) in the maintenance and repair of the BJCTA’s fleet; including diesel and compressed natural gas vehicles.  Applicant must be able to work varying shifts, including nights and weekends.

Vehicle Maintenance Planner 

The Vehicle Maintenance Planner Scheduler plays a vital role in the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) Maintenance Department. In this position, you will be responsible for efficiently planning and scheduling maintenance activities to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our transit vehicles.

Senior Communications Specialist

The Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing a marketing strategy in support of BJCTA’s strategic goals. As a member of BJCTA’s Department of Communication, this involves creating promotional materials, managing social media, overseeing internal and external communications, liaising with media and external constituents, and analyzing and evaluating marketing practices. The Senior Communications Specialist is committed to collaborative and inter-departmental leadership, workforce development, goal setting and performance metrics, community engagement, and streamlined workflow processes; and works in a fast-paced environment and promotes a highly innovative workplace.

Paratransit Operator

The Bus Operator/Paratransit provides passengers with safe and efficient operational service. Under close supervision, operates commercial pubic transit buses/coaches in the MAX service area. Work is monitored and reviewed through observation and through passenger response. Positions in this job classification are considered safety sensitive and are subject to drug testing, including random drug screens, in accordance with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Drug and Alcohol regulations.

Micro-transit Coordinator

The Micro Transit Coordinator assists the Transportation Department in the administrative duties for the daily operation for Micro Transit operations. This includes but is not limited to the reconciliation of payroll timesheets, coordination of final bid submittals by operators, assistance in the administration of vacation and holiday bids, updating and ensuring compliance of driver licensing and motor vehicle records, and acting as the lead facilitator of the department’s complaint investigation and response process and work with union representatives to resolve grievances and disciplinary action in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Micro-transit Supervisor

The Supervisor for Micro Transit Operators plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of on-demand transit vehicles, while also overseeing the performance of Micro Transit Operators to guarantee exceptional passenger experiences. Positions in this job classification are considered safety sensitive and are subject to drug testing, including random drug screens, in accordance with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Drug and Alcohol regulations.

Customer Experience Ambassador

The Customer Experience Ambassador will support the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority through various duties including but not limited to greeting and assisting patrons, receiving complaints, monitoring safety conditions, identifying and assisting vulnerable and/or disabled individuals, encouraging courteous behavior, quality monitoring, training, and reporting incidents.The Customer Experience Ambassador personnel will build relationships with Max Transit customers and employees and offer in-person support to riders that is geared to improving the everyday interactions that transit customers’ experience. May require work overtime, weekends, evenings, and/or holidays.

Bus Operator - Fixed Route

Fixed Route Operator is responsible for providing safe, courteous, and on time transportation to the general public. Under close supervision, operates commercial public transit buses in the Birmingham Jefferson County service area. Must have a valid Alabama Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B and with a passenger and airbrake endorsement. Must have new Alabama learner’s permit if have only taken the written CDL test.

Customer Care Associate

The Customer Care Associate provides prompt and courteous customer service assistance through extensive personal contact with the public.  Provides route and schedule information, answers inquiries and obtains information for general public, customers, visitors, and other interested parties. Receives complaints and recommendations via telephone, email,  fax and in person. Takes calls and makes reservations for paratransit customers. Sells fare media and maintains accurate reconciliation records for all revenue instruments and cash receipts.  Provides other materials and written information to customers.  Performs various clerical and office tasks and related work as assigned.  May have to work overtime, weekends, evenings, and/or holidays.

Fleet Technicians

Maintain, repair and/or rebuild all gas, diesel, Electric, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle owned and operated by BJCTA. Equipment ranges from light to heavy duty vehicle.

Assistant Manager of Maintenance Department

The Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) is in search of a dedicated andexperienced Assistant Maintenance Manager to enhance our team. As Assistant MaintenanceManager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our transitvehicles and facilities. Working closely with the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsiblefor overseeing maintenance operations, managing a team of skilled technicians, and ensuring ourvehicles are maintained to the highest standards of safety and performance.
